Music Courses – Grade 11
Grade 11 music provides opportunities to build on skills learned in Grade 9 & 10. Students will continue to progress on their instrument or voice, and learn more about the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history.
Prerequisite for all Grade 11 Music courses: Grade 9 or 10 Music, Open
AMG3OI – GUITAR (EXPERIENCED)
Students will continue to enhance their skills on the guitar. Students will perform a wide selection of repertoire in large and small groups, and continue their exploration of music theory, history, listening and playing by ear.
Recommended prerequisite for Grade 11 Guitar: Grade 10 Guitar or approval from the Music Dept
AMI3MI – INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
Students will continue to enhance their skills on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument. Students will perform a wide selection of repertoire in large and small groups, and continue their exploration of music theory, history, listening and playing by ear.
AMU3OI
In this course, students will explore modern music through the perspectives of producers, beat makers, and songwriters. Focusing on genres like Hip-hop, Pop, Latin, K-Pop, and Electronic, they’ll study music’s role in society and culture. Students will learn to create music using a piano keyboard and Digital Audio Workstations (e.g., Soundtrap), and develop skills in sampling, arranging, and mixing. The course also includes insights from top producers and offers opportunities to record live instruments and vocals..
