YOU ARE INVITED!!!
Welcome to Bluevale!
Becoming a Bluevale Knight is the start of a great adventure and is a wonderful privilege as you become a part of over 50 years of history and tradition. However, if this step makes you feel nervous or overwhelmed, as a student, parent or guardian, you are not alone. This page has been designed to help you understand what the transition to Grade 9 at Bluevale will look and feel like, and hopefully remove as much of the nervousness that exists for anyone that is about to start high school.
If you have any questions about the information shared on this page or anything related to the transition to Grade 9, please contact the BCI Guidance Department at 519-885-4620 Ext. 5520. Mrs. Loschnig, our Guidance Administrative Assistant, will connect you with your child’s upcoming Guidance Counsellor to answer your questions.
Coming to Bluevale from outside the WRDSB? Check out our section on SCHOOL REGISTRATION.
Course Selection from Grade 8 to Grade 9:
Students will receive instructions for using My Blueprint in their current Grade 8 classes. MyBlueprint will not be available until mid February 2024. Please check out our ACADEMICS page to see classrooms, learn about courses and meet staff!
Once you are ready to choose your courses, please have our GRADE 9 COURSE GUIDE open and ready to go. Your Grade 8 teachers will help you select classes in MyBlueprint.
Frequently Asked Questions for Future Grade 9s:
| What does a typical day look like at Bluevale? |
- Classes start at 8:15 and run until 2:25 p.m. Each class is 75 minutes long.
- You will go to four classes a day (2 before lunch, and 2 after lunch).
- Lunch break is one hour (including travel time). Students may eat in the cafeteria and in some of our halls or even in the community!
|
| What is a “destreamed” class? |
- Check out the school board’s information on destreamed classroom here.
- The school board also has a FAQ on destreaming, here.
|
| When do I get my locker? Do I get my own locker? |
- Bluevale students receive their OWN locker during the first week of school. Lockers remain the same for the entire year.
- You are required to bring your own lock and it must have a combination. To keep your locker contents safe, you should never share your locker combo with anyone.
|
| What does lunch look like? |
- We have a common lunch hour. This means all of our students have lunch at the same time, allowing us to: run various events, activities, intramurals and club meetings, as well as offer extra help with courses. It is great for building our Bluevale community!
|
| Do I eat in the cafeteria? |
- We would prefer that you eat in the cafeteria, but you can eat in the hallways and outside eating areas. If sitting in a hallway you cannot block hallway traffic; you need to sit up right up against the lockers.
|
| Can I buy food at school? |
- We have a servery area with food for purchase as well as well stocked vending machines. The majority of our students bring a packed lunch and we ask that it is litterless.
|
| Can I leave school property during lunch? |
- Yes, you may leave as long as you return on time! This is also a conversation you need to have with your caregivers in terms of expectations for your whereabouts when off of school property because this is unsupervised time. When you leave school property during the course of the school day, whether on your way to school, at lunch or on the way home, we ask that you represent Bluevale with your best behaviour at all times. Be sure to use the sidewalks and do not leave any litter.
|
| Can I get a school bus to Bluevale? |
- Parents can go to the following website www.stswr.ca to check their child’s “eligibility” for transportation.
- This website will inform you if you live far enough from the school to ride the bus. If you are not, the options are: walking, taking a city bus or getting a drive to school.
- If you reside in two households within the BCI area, please be sure to complete the correct paperwork through the STSWR website in order to have bussing from each home.
|
| Does Bluevale have a map? |
- Yes we do! See the image below. If you are at school and having trouble getting around, don’t hesitate to come down to Guidance for directions.
