Bluevale Collegiate travelled to Berlin Speedway this past weekend to compete in round one of the NECA electric car event. Previously, the team has had success racing in the Stock class. This weekend they raced in the Unlimited (open) class and won.

In the first race of the day they beat the other teams by almost a complete lap. “It was the small changes we made from last year that made the difference. It’s all in the details” said coach Jamie Cox. Evan Meredith, Bluevale’s driver, ran an excellent race. “Evan drove a smart race, timing his passes to use the least amount of energy.”

After the first race, the team realised all three tires needed to be replaced and there was a drive train issue. With one hour between races, the Bluevale students worked like a finely tuned machine dealing with all issues to be addressed.

The team fought hard against several teams in the second race, finishing a strong second place. The open class is filled with highly competitive teams from across the state. There are few restrictions to what the teams can do. “These are the top teams from Michigan and just to be competitive is an amazing accomplishment” commented Mr. Cox.

At the end of the day, Bluevale tied for first and won through a tie breaker by having the best race time of the day.

Congratulations to all team members and to coach Mr. Cox!
