Music Courses at Bluevale

Bluevale Concert Band

We currently have one concert band for students in grades 9-12 who play brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. It is a great opportunity for students to further develop their music skills while having fun working with a group of energetic and welcoming students. You need to have a little bit of experience on your instrument but most importantly, you need to be committed to working hard and having fun. The concert band rehearses every Thursday morning and performs at various events throughout the school year. Please see the 2023-2024 Extra-Curricular Music Schedule of Events for full details.

Bluevale Singers

This vocal group is made up of grade 9-12 students who love to sing and have fun. You don’t need any experience to join but you just need to  be committed to the ensemble. You also don’t need any music reading skills. The Bluevale Singers rehearse every Tuesday morning and perform at various events throughout the school year. Bluevale Jazz Knights

This group is a jazz group that play jazz music in all different styles. This group is made up of grade 10-12 students who love to play their instruments and it is an extension of the Bluevale Concert Band as everyone plays their own part. You need to have some experience to play in this ensemble. The Jazz Knights rehearse on Friday after school and perform at various events throughout the school year. Music Leadership Team

The music leadership team is made up of a group of students in the music program who want to take on leadership roles within the program. They work to design different social events for the students in the program as well as taking leadership roles for the music concerts. You need to be in grades 10-12 to be part o the music leadership team. 

The Knights of the Six Strings

This group is a guitar ensemble who plays arrangements of songs based on student interest. This group is made up of grade 10-12 students who love to play the guitar. You need to have some experience to play in this ensemble. The Knights of the Six Strings rehearse on Friday at lunch and perform at various events throughout the school year. 

The Illegal Jazz Band (…shh! It’s a secret…)

This group is a student-led small jazz group started this year and they play music in different styles. This group arranges their own music based on the students they have and consists of students in grades 10-12. You need to have some experience to play in this ensemble. The Illegal Jazz Band  rehearses on Monday at lunch and has started to play for various events. Please see the 2023-2024 Extra-Curricular Music Schedule of Events for full details.
